Peter Crouch is bulletproof (for now)

On Wednesday, Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 thanks to English striker Peter Crouch's header.

It was a monumental win for Spurs since it breaks the chokehold on the top 4 in the EPL (Chelsea, Man. U, Arsenal, Liverpool) and gives them at worst the fourth spot and a berth in the playoffs for the Champions League next season.

If they can win at Burnley on Sunday in their final match of the season, Tottenham could move up to the third spot and thereby avoid the playoff.



The goal ironically came a few moments after Crouch couldn't connect on a cross at his feet that skipped across the goalline. Hopefully in this upcoming World Cup, England learns from its mistake in 2006 of targeting Crouch constantly in the air. He's great in the air but they have to diversify their attack a little more than that; a team with as much talent as England should never be as low-scoring and predictable as they were in 2006. End of rant.

This is why you were taught to juggle the ball as a little kid and maybe this is also why Dunga keeps playing Miacon over Danny Alves because he can juggle better than the Barca man. Of course in my humble opinion if Alves was in Brazil's starting lineup more often the joga bonito boys would score more goals like this, but that's another story.

The Inter Milan man signed off this past Friday with a spectacular juggling act that led to a cracking volley, which opened the scoring at home against Juventus. Inter beat Juventus at home 2-0 to stay in the race for the Scudetto, or in plain English - the Seria A championship.

Now I'm normally not the one to pump up the Seria A - I subscribe typically to Jose Mourinho's philosophy "I don't like Italian football and Italian football doesn't like me." Point in fact I despise Italian football and the defend, defend, defend, counter attack, defend, defend, defend approach. It's boring, unattractive, and why most Americans don't enjoy the game.

However, if you can't get excited about Mirko Vucinic's second goal of the game Sunday vs. derby Rome rivals Lazio and this announcer's reaction - then to quote the great David Portnoy, "you probably have a big dump in your pants."

The goal ensure that Roma would carry its one-point lead over Inter in the Seria A for at least another week. And oh by the way, Vucinic's strike nearly decapitates Lazio keeper Fernando Muslera on its journey to the back of the net. Fernando didn't see the ball until it shaved the side of his head and gave him a little chin music.

Finally we come to the highlights that will make Rich sick, Tottenham's defeat of Chelsea on Saturday, 2-1. John Terry disgraced himself again by giving up a penalty kick before earning him marching orders later in the game fouling Gareth Bale to earn his second yellow of the game. Terry in fact may be setting himself up to be taken out of the starting lineup for England with the shockingly awful form he has shown lately.

But I want to give credit where credit is due. Bale was the hero of the match for Tottenham with this scintilating run slicing and dicing the Chelsea defense before hitting a wonderful shot by Petr Cech at the near post. This is the type of stuff this kid is starting to do on a regular basis and it won't be long until he is a regular in the England national team picture. I for one hope he's not doing this to the U.S. in a little less then two months. Anyway enjoy.
